Project Report | Jun 30, 2016
School construction 8

By Mabwe Lucien | Project Leader

We arrive at the Glenn Paige Nonkilling School at the end of the school year 2015 - 2016. Tomorrow is the proclamation and the official closing!

The local community will gather at the school. There will be a warm ambiance : shouting, crying, congratulations, gifts, cheers and howls of disapproval !

In the closing speech, the Headmaster will announce the opening of the final year of primary school (form 6) for the next school year. This is in line with the request of local authorities and  pupils’ parents . Then ,our pupils will  have the full program of nonkilling  courses.

With anticipation, we can say that this school year was positive: classes went well, the security situation was quiet, few cases of dropouts and desertions and all current programs have been completed.

As for the construction of new buildings, we are  bringing from  Uvira (250 km of the School) bricks, concrete iron  and cement ) by boat to complete the elevation of the walls. The latest hardware will arrive at the school early July.  We planned  to purchase, transport and store the equipment in order to raise the walls in the months of July, August and September 2016 (dry season) for two reasons: to avoid incessant ruptures of stock materials under construction  and avoid disruption of work during the rainy season.

Also, parents of pupils have had enough time to stock up on food to feed themason during construction. For it is the parents who prepare the meal and serve as assistant masons. One of the moms talk "Kazi za shamba zimekwisha, hiyi kipwa tutaanza shinda tunasaidia ku kazi za masomo  ya watoto wetu"   this Kiswahili sentence mean “field work is completed and  this dry season, we will help to build the school of our children” . We hope to start roofing work in October, 2016.

Much thanks to our nonkilling friends for  getting to this step.

We will be happy to receive suggestions for the  good continuation of the work.

Best nonkilling.
