Many rural schools in Niger State lack basic learning resources, especially libraries. This project will establish fully equipped libraries in five underserved schools, providing children with access to books, learning materials, and trained librarians. By creating safe, engaging reading spaces, the project will help thousands of children build literacy skills and a lifelong love of learning.
In rural Niger State, most children grow up without access to books. Many schools operate without libraries, leaving students with limited opportunities to read outside the classroom. This lack of reading materials contributes to low literacy levels, weak academic performance, and limited imagination and creativity. Without intervention, these children remain at a disadvantage compared to peers in betterresourced communities.
This project will build and equip libraries in five rural schools. Each library will include shelves, furniture, storybooks, textbooks, and ageappropriate learning materials. The project will also train school librarians to manage the spaces and support students' reading development. By creating welcoming, resourcerich environments, children will gain daily access to books that inspire curiosity and strengthen literacy.
More than 2,000 children will benefit every year from these libraries. Improved access to reading materials will boost literacy, academic performance, and confidence. Over time, communities will see a generation of bettereducated young people who are prepared to contribute to local development. The libraries will remain permanent assets for the schools, ensuring longlasting educational impact.
