In rural Niger State, hundreds of children walk long, exhausting distances to school every day. Many arrive late, tired, or not at all. This project will provide safe, reliable transport-using buses and bicycles-for 250 children each year. With secure routes and trained drivers, students will reach school safely and on time, improving attendance, protecting vulnerable girls, and helping children stay in school.
For many rural families, education is out of reach simply because the journey to school is too far and too dangerous. Children often trek several miles under harsh weather conditions, facing fatigue, lateness, and frequent absenteeism. Girls are especially at risk of harassment along unsafe routes. These barriers contribute to high dropout rates and poor academic performance. Without safe transport, many children cannot access the education they deserve.
This project will provide school buses and bicycles to ensure safe, daily transport for 250 children. Drivers will be trained in child safety and route management, and communities will help establish and maintain secure travel paths. Parents and local leaders will be engaged to support longterm sustainability. With dependable transport, children will arrive ready to learn-every day.
Each year, 250 children will benefit from safe, consistent access to school. Over time, the project will reduce dropout rates, improve academic outcomes, and create healthier, more confident learners. Communities will gain a lasting transport system that protects children, supports girls' education, and strengthens the overall commitment to schooling. By removing the barrier of unsafe travel, this project helps build a brighter future for rural families.
