On June 15, Fundación Tiempo de Juego hosted their 8th annual 5kzucá 5k race! After taking a year off, the race came back with full strength, with hundreds of runners coming from all over the city to the regional office in Soacha to participate. The 5kzucá had three main goals: helping to redefine the historically stigmatized territory that is Cazucá and Soacha as a whole, advocating for the prevention of teenage pregnancy, and funding Tiempo de Juego’s new high performance track and field team.
From professional runners to people who have never participated in an organized race, we had over 400 runners and donors contribute to the 5kzucá. The race itself presented a unique challenge to our runners: with over 2 kilometers of incline, and nearly a full kilometer of a steep decline, the 5kzucá race presented runners with a layout unlike most races typically held in Bogotá. Undoubtedly the biggest draw of the race, however, was that runners competing in the ‘Desafiantes’ amateur category were also given the opportunity to run the final kilometer of the race alongside a Tiempo de Juego participant. This chance to connect with the community of Cazucá, not just by running with them but also during the joint warmups, brought our supporters closer to the people we work with and the reasons for why Tiempo de Juego does the work it does.
We invite you to donate to the Sports Dreams campaign. With your donation, we’ll be able to continue to fund the sports opportunities for our children and adolescents, like the track and field team, Cazucá FC, and all of our regular sports activities that occupy children’s free time while teaching them valuable socioemotional skills.
