"What Tiempo de Juego does is admirable (...) they do things of high value to society, a perfect example of how a community decides to take their future in their hands" John Carlin, Bogotá 2017.
The British journalist, John Carlin, author of the book "The Human Factor" that served as the basis for the film "Invictus" about the South African leader Nelson Mandela, participated in a fascinating discussion on the occasion of the celebration of the eleventh anniversary of Fundación Tiempo de Juego.
On 14th November, Tiempo de Juego run its annual fundraising event. But this was no event like any other they had put together, it has a very special guest. John Carlin narrated in front of an audience of more than two hundred people, captivated by its simplicity and depth, how Mandela managed to negotiate with the General of his country who, with a force of fifty thousand armed men, tried to neutralize him by the use of force so that he would not reach the presidency.
John Carlin highlighted that he has been a witness of many cruel realities where the excess of free time for young people is highly prone to many frequent problems in the context, such as drugs, gangs, early pregnancy, among others. And added that Tiempo de Juego is not only a football school, but a movement that incorporates three essential elements: 1. the "soccer for peace" methodology, as an intentional tool to promote good coexistence, 2. the inclusion of gender and life skills, and 2. the "monitors" model, which promotes the leadership of young people to be the promoters and coordinators of the activities.
Carlin shared with all the audicence aa beautiful lesson in humanity, and did not spare words of recognition and praise for this beautiful project of social redemption for thousands of children across Colombia, which under the pretext of football has taken them out of violence, gangs and drug addiction, but instead teaching them precisely in values of work and respect for others.
Thank you for making Tiempo de Juego's work a reality every year. With your contribution, we ensure many more children can have a second chance in life.
