Our Play and Prep Activities

By Solomon Abbey | Child Rights Advocate

The Score for Success project leverages football to enhance life skills and leadership development among street-connected children in Jamestown, Accra. The project aims to address social issues, promote education, and reintegrate out-of-school children through sport. A community coach, supported by social workers and football professionals, will guide 30 children in football-based activities. These activities will be a platform to identify and resolve social challenges while fostering personal growth and academic improvement

Progress

  • Training Sessions: Successfully conducted 25 training sessions focusing on football drills and social development.
  • Participant Consistency: Maintained engagement with 20 consistent young boys (under 13), fostering commitment and teamwork.

  • Skill Development: Training emphasized building agility and stamina, enhancing physical and mental discipline.

Deviation

  • Training Sessions: Planned 30 training sessions within the specified timeframe but 25 training sessions were conducted. Hence, there was a Shortfall of 5 sessions due to the delay in kickstarting the project.
  • Participant Consistency: Planned to Engage 25-30 boys in consistent training but 20 boys have remained consistent.
  • Funding and Logistics: Planned to have full funding secured and logistics in place by mid-project. However, funding and procurement still ongoing. Delay in securing necessary resources may have impacted the number and quality of training sessions.

    Next Actionable Steps

    • Playing More Football Matches: Organize Friendly Matches: Arrange two friendly matches per quarter with neighbouring communities, schools, or football academies to give participants more game exposure and use these matches to assess skills under real-game conditions and foster team spirit.
    • Targeted Sponsorship Proposals: Identify potential sponsors, including local businesses, NGOs, and sports organizations, and send detailed proposals highlighting program achievements and the benefits of sponsorship
