Empowering Girls Through Football: WELL GIRLS at Junior Football Camp

By Anthony Kojo Bosomtwe | Programme Manager

Date: Saturday, October 11, 2025
Location: Ghana Gas Park, Dzorwulu
Participants: 8 SCEF Girls (ages 10–15)
Facilitator: Adelaide Ama Bosu

A Morning of Confidence and Connection

On a bright Saturday morning, eight young girls supported by the Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) set out for an unforgettable learning experience at the Junior Football Camp (JFC) in Accra.

With smiles, laughter, and matching energy, they boarded the JFC bus from the SCEF office at 8:00 AM under the guidance of Facilitator Adelaide Ama Bosu. What awaited them was more than a football session — it was a journey of self-discovery, teamwork, and empowerment.

“Every child has a gift — sometimes, all they need is a field to discover it.” — Coach Elorm

Learning Beyond the Game

At the Ghana Gas Park, the girls were warmly welcomed by Coach Elorm, who immediately put them at ease. His opening conversation focused on football, discipline, and teamwork — but his words reached deeper. He encouraged the girls to stay committed, respect themselves, and always support one another, both on and off the pitch.

Soon after, the field came alive with movement and laughter. The coach observed their:

  • Ball control

  • Passing accuracy

  • Team coordination

  • Movement and awareness

He noted their raw potential and passion, promising to tailor future drills to build both their confidence and skill.

For many of the girls, it was their first time playing in a structured football environment — yet they displayed remarkable enthusiasm and courage. What started as a simple training session became a space of belonging, joy, and growth.

Continuing the Journey

The Junior Football Camp team and SCEF agreed to continue nurturing the girls’ development:
Weekly training: The girls will attend JFC every Saturday.
Personal practice routines: Coach Elorm will assign individual drills to strengthen their skills.
Ongoing support: SCEF will monitor their attendance, confidence, and emotional well-being.

Beyond football, the WELL GIRLS initiative continues to promote leadership, health, and psychosocial support, helping girls recognize their worth and their voice.

A Partnership that Inspires

The visit deepened the partnership between SCEF and Junior Football Camp (JFC) — uniting both organizations under a shared goal: helping every girl realize her potential.

Each participant returned home with more than new skills — they left with a renewed belief in themselves. Their teamwork, laughter, and respect for one another were the true victories of the day.

“We came to play football, but we left feeling strong and proud.” — Ama, 13, WELL GIRLS participant

Thank You, GlobalGiving Family!

Your ongoing support makes days like this possible. Because of you, these young girls have access to spaces where they can learn, grow, and shine. You’re not only funding activities — you’re fueling confidence, joy, and opportunity.

Thank you for believing in our girls and for helping us build a world where every child, regardless of background, can play, learn, and lead.

Next Steps & Upcoming Goals

  • Continue weekly football sessions through December 2025

  • Provide football kits and mentorship support

  • Engage more girls from the SCEF community in sports and leadership programs

Together, we are shaping champions — on and off the field.
