After ploughing and seeding in spring the rice appeared quickly (photo 1).
When weeding was finished we were already hoping for a bumper harvest (photo 2).
But then the Rokel river overflooded (photo 3 and 4). Rice plants can survive in water but fishes nourish on the leaves and when the water receded, it also took vital minerals with it.
Photo 5 shows that the rice plants became yellow instead of green. They need nitrogen for a sufficient flowering, which determines the crop yield of rice grains. Urea application is needed but no funds have been set aside. Would you also help the farmers with a donation to save their harvest?
