Advanced Training for Women's Community Projects

By Jane Kaye-Bailey | Founder

Women's Vegetable Growing Project - Zwanga
Women's Vegetable Growing Project - Zwanga

This time last year I was reporting on water shortages, emergency food relief and the detrimental impact caused the worst drought in Zambia’s history.

I am pleased to say that crops have been much improved this year and I want to share with you some good news that we recently received for the women's sustainable income-generating agricultural projects. The women from Sekute, Senkobo, Muskotwane, Siambelele, Zwanga, Kanchele, Sekute Central and Zalu are being offered extensive training in view of capacity building.
The International Development Research Centre of Canada is funding a research project with the Universities of Zambia and Malawi to implement a research project entitled 'Future Resilience of Home-Grown School Feeding System in Urban Zambia'.
The Butterfly Tree has been identified as a key stakeholder on the front of mobilization of smallholder farmers in Livingstone. We are one of only six NGO's to have been selected from Zambia and Malawi. It is a three-year programme and they want to see how the FRESHGROWS Project can leverage on our projects to train and build capacity to produce nutritious food for urban schools. Though we only support one urban school as all the others we have developed are in rural areas, it's a great opportunity for the women to expand sustainable businesses.
