Many Nigerian farmers are trapped in hunger due to failed harvests, conflict, and lack of access to quality seeds. This project by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research will provide improved crop seeds, fertilizers, and farm tools to struggling farmers. By restoring their ability to plant and harvest again, the project will reduce hunger, rebuild livelihoods, and bring hope to farming families across rural communities affected by food insecurity.
Across rural Nigeria, many farmers are unable to plant because they lost their seeds to flooding, drought, or attacks. Hunger has worsened as families eat their last harvest instead of saving for replanting. Rising costs of fertilizer and poor access to farm inputs have deepened the crisis. Without help, more farmers will remain food-insecure and unable to recover their livelihoods, leaving entire communities at risk of starvation.
The project will provide farmers with quality seeds, simple tools, and fertilizers to restart farming. Farmers will receive training on seed preservation, planting, and pest management to ensure high yields. The program will also promote seed sharing among farmers to sustain production. With access to resources and knowledge, families will return to farming and regain food security and income within their local communities.
The project will help farmers regain independence and stability. Better harvests will reduce hunger and improve nutrition for families in crisis. Rebuilding farms will also create local jobs and encourage youth to return to agriculture. By establishing seed banks and promoting sustainable farming, communities will have continuous access to planting materials and food, ensuring lasting recovery and self-reliance across rural Nigeria.
