Peacebuilding Through Sustainable Agriculture and Women’s Leadership in Nepal

The Small World has a long history of promoting peace in remote Himalayan communities, and its Seeds of Hope sustainable agriculture program is a powerful example of peacebuilding in action. In Solukhumbu, Nepal where geographic isolation, climate change, and gender inequality shape everyday life peace begins with food security, dignity, and opportunity.

The Seeds of Hope program empowers women through sustainable agriculture by providing skills, resources, and livelihood support. When women can grow food and earn income, families become stronger and more secure. Mothers are better able to care for their children, support their education, and reduce daily stress around food and finances. Strong families form resilient communities, and resilient communities are the foundation of lasting peace.

Alongside livelihoods, The Small World also builds peace by forming women’s groups of 30–40 members in each community. Many of these women never attended school and were previously limited to household chores from early morning until late at night. Through regular monthly meetings with a clear purpose, women now come together to learn, share experiences, celebrate festivals, dance, and enjoy moments of rest and connection. These gatherings reduce isolation, build confidence, and bring peace of mind—leading to more loving families and communities filled with hope and opportunity.

To date, The Small World has formed over 25 women’s groups, directly empowering more than 1,000 women across multiple communities. Through their families and households, this work is positively impacting over 5,000 people, strengthening social harmony and community resilience.

Through Seeds of Hope, women’s empowerment, girls’ education, and community leadership, The Small World does not only address poverty—it cultivates dignity, resilience, and lasting peace from the ground up.

Looking ahead to 2026, The Small World is seeking USD 50,000 to expand the Seeds of Hope program. This investment will support more than 500 families with quality seeds, greenhouse materials, hands-on agricultural training, and the formation of women’s groups. Together, these efforts will strengthen livelihoods, empower women, and deepen peacebuilding at the household and community level.

We invite donors and partners to join us in this journey. Your support will help cultivate food security, dignity, and lasting peace for families across the Himalayan communities of Solukhumbu.
