Spring has come and gone in a blink of an eye. Our spring seasonal programs have ended and we are getting all excited for our summer programs to continue getting kids outdoors and exploring! We are especially excited about this opportunity, because thanks to more vaccinations and lower COVID rates, we are able to have more big group games, that returning campers love and always look forward to! Getting our programs back to what they were before COVID could not have been made without the efforts of our staff and gracious donors like you!
We are super grateful for the opportunity to get our programs back to what they once were. An example of this happened on our last day of Homeschool for the spring. Our two youngest groups held a Talent Show for their friends and family to enjoy. Performances included the Macarena, stand-up comedy, singing, and everything in between. The most surprising presentation was from one of our youngest campers, 5-year-old Oscar. He came up on stage to showcase his amazing math skills. Emily, our counselor-in-training, assisted him by writing down the math problems big enough for the audience to see. While preparing for the talent show, Oscar was adamant he could add three-digit numbers. The equations started off easy, 2+2=4, 20+30=50, but the last math question was 320+96. The audience gave their full attention and the applause was astounding as he wrote down 416. Oscar really came out of his shell throughout this spring session, and even if he is sitting silently, you know a lot is buzzing around his mind.
Though the look of our programs may seem different, children still have had the opportunity to explore, interact with others, and just be themselves. This has been made possible by efforts from our staff, community, and donors like you! We can’t thank you enough!! Our waitlists are still longer than ever and we need your help to fund scholarships, buy equipment, and pay quality staff to help run our programs.
