This fall, thanks to your generosity, more than 25 children were able to step away from the demands of school and spend meaningful time outdoors through our Junior Naturalists programs at Yates Mill Park in Raleigh, NC. For many, it was their first time peering at macroinvertebrates through a magnifying lens, identifying a bird by its call, recognizing native plant species, or getting an up-close look at endangered mussels inside the Yates Mill Aquatic Conservation Laboratory.
Since our last update, we’ve continued to strengthen our nature-based curriculum to offer even richer hands-on learning and deeper wildlife stewardship opportunities. Our educators introduced new activities including pollinator habitat surveys, owl pellet dissections, and child-led trail navigation. Each addition helps ensure that every child, no matter their background or comfort level outdoors, finds a way to feel engaged, curious, and confident in nature.
One young participant summed it up perfectly when they shouted, “I love looking for animals with the binoculars… wow! I just saw a vulture!”
As we look ahead to the new year, we’re excited to continue sharing stories of growth, discovery, and connection. Thank you for helping children experience the joy, wonder, and healing that come from time spent in the natural world.
