Summer camp is in full swing.  We are offering camps in three counties this summer, and thanks to your support, several kids have been able to attend camps at all 3 locations!  Creek Crawler Camp just wrapped up at Umstead State Park in Raleigh, NC.

Crystal, our head counselor in Raleigh, sent a midweek email home to parents to give them an update on what they had been doing so parents could talk to their children about the experience:

"This has been such a fun week!

On Monday we focused our attention on the amphibians in the park. We discovered tiny toads, a variety of frogs, and salamanders in the creek. It was awesome :)

Tuesday was our reptile day and we saw a Garter Snake right off the bat. We explored Umstead looking for turtles, snakes, and lizards! Many of the kids saw five lined skinks in the woods.

Today we talked about how everything is connected and balanced with our focus of creek ecology. We had a good time swimming in a deeper part of the creek the kids have named 'Too Deep, Too Cold.'

We have had a great time playing games. Ask your child about Cougar, The Clothespin Game, Six Feathers, Werewolf, and Park Ranger and see which one has been their favorite!  Thank you for sharing your kids with us, it's been a blast!"

The fun had there and exposure to some great nature connections and fellow campers, inspired 10 year old camper, James to exclaim, "I had a ton of fun and want to make everyone recycle and protect the environment."  His Mom is super grateful that he was able to receive a scholarship and wants to return her gratitude by volunteering at our annual BioBlitz and auction.

James was super happy to spend his birthday with us and all of his new friends.  "We found a big black rat snake, saw a fawn, which was probably my favorite, and then a snake none of the counselors had encountered before...an Eastern Hognose!" There is a wonderful creek we get to swim in and explore.  "It is our favorite afternoon activity!" James explained.

Your support has made it possible for James, and other children just like him, to explore nature, make new friends and become inspired to lead others in caring for our environment!\. Thank you!
