Student after student, the classroom begins to fill up. Most of them concentrated in a list of words they wrote down in their notebooks, sited in a small circle trying to finish up yesterday’s homework.
Finally, the Instructor enters the room and looks at all of them with flashing eyes. Between greetings and smiles she shows them pictures of what her other Accommodation students have done with great creativity.
She seems to enjoy sharing with her Baru students the accomplishments, Yudis, is one of them, who is usually the first one to arrive.
For Yudis, having to pass through wet sand, all the way from Baru town in order to get to school in Santa Ana, hasn’t stopped her.
Each and every day, she gets to school even though in the way, she has to avoid the risk of falling from the motorcycle and sometimes she has to get down and walk on the water that covers the road.
“I am becoming a better person here, because I am learning more than I know and I can guide my children, classmates and other family members," she says encouragingly.
Yudis is 36 years old and she affirms she had taught her children and grandchildren to be respectful, to love their selves and theirs lives and to study hard. This is what keeps her moving forward, despite the hard times she has passed through, like when her oldest son had a very bad motorcycle accident and he was seriously injured.
She currently works at a summerhouse in Baru that will probably become a hotel, in which she can practice what she is learning and also teach her co-workers.
