At the time of the interview during the enrollment process in March 2025, Dubis was working in the afternoons at a boutique in Barú. She lives with her 14-year-old son. She has worked as a waitress, but would like to work in the administrative field, which motivated her to take part in the technical training in Administrative Assistance.
She is now one of the 30 students who attend classes every day at the Barú Training and Entrepreneurship School. In this stage of her studies, she takes in-person classes, which means that each morning she has to hop on a motorcycle and travel from her hometown of Barú to Santa Ana.
The teachers travel all the way from Cartagena, while the students make their way from different corners of Barú. Thanks to the donations we receive, Duvis now has a small transportation subsidy, which means that each morning she can hop on a motorcycle and ride to sthe Baru training chool to continue her studies.
Every month, we make sure the student is attending classes regularly, and once that’s confirmed, she receives the money for her transportation.
Next year, Dubis will start her practical training, taking the final steps toward becoming a skilled Administrative Assistant technician.
