Project Title: Send a Child in Nigeria to School for a Year
Project ID: 54398
Organization: Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF)
Introduction
Education remains a critical lever for breaking the cycle of poverty in Nigeria. At Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation, our commitment to supporting underprivileged children through access to basic education remains strong. Despite ongoing financial constraints, we have made meaningful progress this quarter in ensuring more children gain access to formal education and digital learning support.
Grant Update and Fund Utilization
During this quarter, we received a GlobalGiving Exceptional Grant of $1,000, of which $200 (20%) was allocated to this project. This amount, combined with a carryover balance of $70, gave us a total of $270 in available funds.
These funds were used to:
Pay tuition fees for schoolchildren
Provide essential learning materials, such as notebooks, writing materials, and school uniforms
Support mentorship and follow-up sessions for retention
Six (6) children were directly supported this quarter, including two new entrants who had been previously on our waiting list.
New Strategic Development: AI Partnership with Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar
On July 20th, 2025, we entered into a groundbreaking partnership with Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar, a multilingual, voice-powered artificial intelligence tool designed to support education, communication, and community development.
This collaboration is already showing positive potential in the following areas:
Interactive Learning Support: Children can now access basic academic guidance and tutoring through voice prompts, especially those who lack help at home.
EBU Navigation Assistance: The AI supports students enrolled in the EBU Certificate Program by helping them understand and manage digital platforms.
Parental Engagement: Isidore AI helps us reach parents in their native languages through automated voice messages, making communication easier and more inclusive.
Low-Tech Learning Enablement: Designed to work in low-bandwidth environments, the Avatar makes learning support possible even in remote communities with limited internet access.
This AI integration marks a major leap forward in our ability to scale our support across underserved regions efficiently and equitably.
Project Milestones
6 children supported through tuition and school supplies
4 students enrolled in the EBU Certificate Courses
2 completed their first learning modules
AI-powered pilot sessions initiated in 2 communities with positive feedback from families and volunteers
Challenges
Insufficient Funding: The growing number of children in need still outweighs available resources.
Digital Divide: Most students do not own smartphones or laptops, limiting their ability to fully engage in digital learning.
EBU Application Barrier: The €35 non-refundable application fee for the EBU course remains a challenge for some families.
Recommendations and Next Steps
Continue to expand our fundraising and donor engagement to accommodate more children
Seek partnerships for the donation of learning tablets and solar-powered devices
Establish a Scholarship Support Fund to help cover the EBU registration fees
Scale up the Isidore CompetitivAI pilot to at least 5 communities before the end of the year
Host community engagement forums focused on AI for Education and Parent Support Initiatives
Conclusion
The progress recorded this quarter is a testament to the power of partnership and innovation. With the support of GlobalGiving, generous donors, and the integration of Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar, we are breaking new ground in how we deliver inclusive, tech-enabled education to vulnerable children.
We remain committed to ensuring that no child is denied the right to learn because of poverty. Thank you for walking this journey with us. Together, we are changing lives—one child, one book, and one voice at a time.
