Buy a Cow to Educate a HS Student in Rural Kenya

As we approach the end of the year, I take this opportunity to thank you for the commitment you have shown towards our cause. It is beyond our words and we all congratulate you! You have done an amazing work and we can tell from the performance of the children and their health.

Your support has made all these to happen and we are grateful. The high school students are doing well, the first group will be compeleting their high school next year! We have THE FIRST HIGH SCHOOL CANDIDATES!  It is FOUR YEARS down the line since you started supporting our high school students.  Lets look forward to their perfomance and we pray that they will make it to UNIVERSITY!

I have shared with you about the challenges we have on the high school education and this year has been difficult. Our support is not sufficient because we have few friends who are donating towards the high school fees. You can visit our page and you can tell we dont have much coming on this project. This year we had a problem as most of our children were sent home for we had not cleared their school fees. We have  39 students already in high school and we have 31 who will be joining by January.

We know you are already committed and most of you are doing child sponsorship which is helping. Our sponsorship is not enough for the high school fees and that makes it difficult for our high school students to remain in school.  We are kindly requesting that you help us build this project. Introducing friends and relatives will help us achieve this goal. Go through this three steps and help this children to remain in school. Expanding our donor family will make it work.

WALK WITH US

1. We have introduced a fund which we are requesting friends to introduce 10 friends each who can give $30 ones per year. Encourage the 10 friends to introduce 10 friends each and we will achieve our goal. This will help us to pay the high school fees for all our children.

2. The second way we are requesting friends to introduce 10 friends each who can give $10 or $12 monthly which will support for their monthly visits and also be spent on income generating activities to enable us become self sustainable. This will be helpful in reducing dependency.

3. We have introduced a cow project to help us with the children who are still in lower primary classes. The cow will be bought for them and their guardians/parents will take care of the cows. Part of the milk proceeds will be saved towards the high school fees for that particular child and rest of the milk will be for the family. This will not only benefit the child but the entire family. Precautions have been taken in making sure that the cow is safe and well taken care of. Some of our friends have bought cows for their sponsored children and others have been donated. We are also requesting that you share with friends to expand on this, a cow is $380. We have already given out 20 cows.

Next year we are expecting YOUR  high school girls and boys   from the first group will be graduating. YOU have made them come this far and we are looking forward to their graduation and the good results.

As you all know education is power, it is the only weapon for change! This cannot be primary education but high school education opens more doors for the change. We all understand that after high school, you are able to go to university or join any college as long as you have performed well. Joining high school is a big challenge to many students in our community. Just to share with you about the statistics in our county between 2012 and 2013: We had 237,570 children who went through primary school but only 15% joined high school. This is also happening with Tumaini children as it has been a challenge to meet the needs for the high school students especially payment of the school fees. All our children have always done well in their final primary exams and they are admitted in some of the best schools. These schools are expensive which makes it difficult for us to actually admit them in these schools. Keeping them in school becomes a problem and so they are sent home for school fees which interrupt their education. We are trying to sometimes admit them in other schools and this brings their esteem down, as they have always worked hard to go to better schools.

We have looked into various solutions and we feel it will be good to share with you as our friends. We have come up with a high school fund to enable us raise funds for fees. Friends can do a one time donation or a recuring donation which can eventually help us meet this need. We are also kindly requesting every Tumaini friend to introduce 10 friends who can donate $10 per month. The 10 friends can also introduce 10 friends each so that our donor family can grow to enable us a chieve this goal for our children. We understand that not all can be able to sponsor a child monthly especially with high school fees as it is expensive and so if we can have little by little, it can all pull up and enable us achieve this goal. The money will be used on the high school fees as well as starting income generating activities which we feel can help us become self sustainable. We are also looking forward to support other bright orphans who are not in our school but are from the community. We also have a cow project which will involve the guardians/parents for the children. The cow will be bought by Tumaini and the guardian/parent will take care of the cow. Three litres of milk will be sold and the money will be saved for the the child’s high school shopping. The rest of the milk will be for the family of the child and they can sell to buy food and also help in taking care of the cow. The calves will be kept and when the child joins high school, the calves can be sold to pay fees. The children in our children’s home are also involving therefore we are looking into pig and livestock farming which we feel can generate income for their fees.

It is in this regard that we are writing to you to join us and help us expand our donor family to enable us achieve these goals. We always appreciate your efforts and commitment towards our work. It is YOU who is actually making the difference and we are grateful, we have no words to express it!
