Message of Gratitude from the Tumaini Fraternity

On behalf of the entire Tumaini fraternity, we extend our deepest gratitude for your generosity, unwavering commitment, and constant prayers. Because of your support, incredible things are happening—vulnerable students are thriving in school, and they feel seen, valued, and equal to their peers.

As we reflect on the rural communities we serve, we are often confronted by the recurring cycle of poverty. Just when progress seems possible, new challenges arise. This reality fuels our conviction at Tumaini of Smiles: while providing food and tokens is important, access to education is the true key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

For over twenty years, we have witnessed how education transforms lives. It is our mission’s core, and the driving force behind our student sponsorship program. With your help, this program continues to change destinies.

As the school holidays come to a close, this past week has marked the return to school. Our students had a meaningful time at home with their guardians and parents—and we also cherished moments spent listening to their stories and experiences about school life. We are proud to share that the first semester ended successfully, with most students achieving a mean grade of C or higher. A few received a D+, but even this is a hopeful sign of progress. These outcomes are directly tied to your support—your sponsorship ensures that no child is sent home for lack of school fees.

We recently brought all our high school students together at our center, where they received personal effects to help them prepare for the new term. We also hosted professionals from various fields who spoke with the students about career choices. It was an inspiring and empowering session for everyone involved.

Due to changes in the national education system, we did not admit new students into high school this year. However, we continue to prepare and support our current students, and we're already looking forward to the next intake.

As you scroll through our updates, you may notice that our sponsorship numbers have dropped. Many generous sponsors have had to step back due to unavoidable circumstances. We currently have 30 students without sponsors, and we humbly ask for your help in spreading the word. A simple conversation—a recommendation to a friend or family member—could make all the difference for a child in need.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for walking this journey with us. Because of you, they can dream again. Because of you, they can learn. Because of you, change is happening.

With heartfelt appreciation,
The Tumaini Team
