In March, the Ethiopian Prime Minister declared a five-month state of emergency in response to Covid-19. The situation in Ethiopia looks much like the situation in many US states, with a mixture of open and closed businesses, closed schools, and communities living under duress. At Enhance Worldwide, we’re teaching our girls, their families, and their community to protect themselves and each other.
The Covid-19 response in Ethiopia has focused education, awareness, and prevention. Socially distanced community and household information has been key to sharing information among populations without access to newspapers, televisions, and other sources of information. Our partner, following all WHO safety guidelines, met with all 15 girls and 3 university women and their caregivers to make they understand how to stay safe. She goes out daily in Addis Ababa to share information with vulnerable populations. As a veteran of HIV/AIDS response, she knows how to make complex information accessing to everyone. We are proud to support her work.
Thanks to your support, we are working to protect our girls, their families, and our community from Covid 19 while ensuring the safe continuation of our programs. Educating a girl can change the world, and, in the case of Covid, educating a girl can save lives. Thank you for supporting Enhance Worldwide and our work with girls in Ethiopia.
