MOVING FORWARD WITH A HELPING HAND

By Nonna Ponferrada | President, FPVI

2026 Moving-up and Graduation
2026 Moving-up and Graduation

Four new students who recently completed junior high school joined the FPVI Program as they look forward to transitioning into senior high school. They are now actively participating in the FPVI summer program, which comprises in-house and outreach activities.

Six Grade 12 students graduated from senior high school in March, with honors, and have been preoccupied with taking qualifying exams and interviews for college entry at various universities in Leyte. Additionally, they have explored scholarship grants offered by various institutions. Their dogged determination to get to college outweighs any anxieties and challenges encountered. FPVI remains a constant presence and support in their particular quest.

Both groups, plus the 2 who will be in Grade 12 in the coming school year, are currently immersed in intensive training for reading mentors at the FPVI’s 3rd Reading and Rhythm Program this summer. This program targets Grades 5 and 6 pupils in one of the barangays (villages) under Tunga to help them improve their reading and comprehension skills as they prepare for high school.

Amidst the intensity of the training and other preparatory work involved and the challenges that running the week-long reading program entails, the students are enthusiastic about this mentoring role and optimistic that their efforts will make a difference.
