Warrior Canine Connection Puppy Update

By Jamie Williams | Community Outreach and Education Director

The Gratitude Litter
The Gratitude Litter

Dear Friends of Warrior Canine Connection,

So much has happened since our last Global Giving report! If you follow Warrior Canine Connection in social media or subscribe to our newsletter, you know that the Gratitude Litter (consisting of nine Labrador Retriever puppies) was born on Thanksgiving Day. The puppy you are supporting is a member of that litter.

During the first 10 weeks of life, the puppy was lovingly cared for at the WCC Healing Quarters in Brookeville, MD and observed by tens of thousands of people on the Explore.org Puppy Cam. During that time, Service Members, Veterans, and numerous civilian volunteers spent hundreds of hours petting and socializing the litter as the first step in the puppies' journey.

The puppy was matched in February with specially selected “Puppy Parents,” who are providing a loving, nurturing home while the puppy trains for its future as a service dog for a Veteran. In just a couple of weeks, the now four-month-old puppy will begin going to “work” daily at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. (To get an idea of the role and work of a WCC Puppy Parent, we’ve provided a link to a recent radio interview in the Bay Area.)

The puppy will provide Canine Connection Therapy to Warriors at Walter Reed who, in turn, will train the puppy for its future mission. Know that your generous contribution will play an important role in healing those with visible and invisible wounds of war.

Also, please take a few moments to watch the attached video from CBSNews.com, which demonstrates the impact that just one WCC dog has had in the healing and wellbeing of a Service Member and his entire family. Thank you for helping to bring this kind of healing and support to Warriors at Walter Reed and, in the future, to a Veteran who has given so much.

Stay tuned in the months ahead for additional puppy reports!
