Jany was studying abroad when covid-19 struck. Her university recalled all students and helped make arrangements for her to come home.
The night before she was going to fly home, Jany was asleep in her room. She woke up to a man climbing on top of her. She was absolutely terrified. She tried to scream but her attacker put his hand over her mouth and threatened to kill her if she screamed or resisted.
After the sexual assault the man ran out the door. Jany was in shock. She showered, finished packing and headed to the airport hours early. From the airport she emailed Pathways. Our advocate Kate continued email correspondence with Jany until she boarded the airplane.
Pathways connected Jany with a rape crisis center in her town at home in the USA.
Here is a part of an email from Jany last week:
"I don't know what I would have done if I wasn't able to email with Kate while I was waiting for my plane. She believed me, told me it wasn't my fault and helped me understand my options once I got home. Those hours would have been the worst in my life without Kate."
Thank you for helping Americans sexually assaulted abroad. The Pathways' Team.
