Helana loves her job working overseas as a photographer for a well-known magazine. The pandemic forced her to take some time off which she welcomed.
Helana loves the outdoors and spent more time outside in her free time taking photographs of a world under lockdown. Every once in a while she invited a friend over to visit as long as they both wore masks and kept 6 feet apart. One evening a male friend of hers came by for a visit. They both shared a love of photography and both worked for the magazine.
Even though Helana had made it clear to her friend that she was not interested in him romantically, he forced himself on her and tried to sexually assault her. Luckily, Helana had studied self-defense and was ultimately able to escape after a struggle. Her friend fled.
Helana has been emailing with a Pathways' advocate processing the attack, receiving emotional support and further resources. She decided not to press charges against her friend. She is concerned about seeing him again at work so Helana will continue to receive support from our advocate to help her through that process.
Without donors like you, we would not be able to continue to help American victims abroad in their time of need.
Thank you for your support!
