Pia contacted our crisis email advocate Meg in desperation. She had just been sexually assaulted by two men in France.
She was terrified and had no idea what she should do.
Meg was able to offer emotional support and gently explain to Pia what her options were from self-collection of evidence, how to making a police report, explain what hospitals she could go to if she wanted to get medical attention or a rape kit, what English speaking resources were available and more.
Meg let Pia know that whatever she chose would be the right decision for her. Pia felt like she should have fought harder. Meg reminded her that fighting two grown men harder than she did could have meant more serious injuries or worse.
Pia did decide to go to the police and get a rape kit. She was so grateful to Meg for supporting her during her crisis and help her through her decision making process. Without Meg, she may have never gotten the help she needed.
We want to thank you! Without your support we would not be able to support American sexual assault victims abroad like Pia.
