Fujiko was happy to go abroad to Italy for a 4-week summer Italian immersion program. She loves learning about new cultures as she is Japanese and American and grew up in a cross cultural family.
Fujiko made several friends and had also befriended a young man who was in the program. He was quite charming and polite so Fujiko agreed to go to dinner with him. After dinner he walked her home. She said goodbye to him at the front door of her homestay but he insisted on kissing Fujiko. She told him she did not want to but he forced her, pushed her up against the wall, and forced his hand up her skirt, his fingers violating her. Fujiko screamed and the father at her homestay opened the front door.
The young man ran, but Fujiko was crying, afraid, and ashamed that she had done something wrong and blamed herself.
Fujiko emailed us and we were able to calm her down, explain to her that it wasn't her fault and provide emotional support. Fujiko contacted us multiple times checking in and we assured her that we would continue to support her until she could get home and get connected to mental health resources.
Because of your support we are able to help victims like Fujiko immediately after an assault that is so crucial for victims. She is home now and getting support from a counselor.
Thank you so much!
