Rikki decided to take a break from college after her sophmore year. She saved up enough money to backpack around Europe and Asia for six months. Her trip of a lifetime tragically ended when she was sexually assaulted in a hostel in Thailand.
The last thing Rikki remembers was drinking a glass of wine after dinner with other travelers at the hostel. The next morning she woke up in her bed, bruised and bleeding. Rikki had done some research before she left on her trip and had our phone number with her. We were able to immediately get Rikki to a hospital to get medical attention and prophylactics.
Rikki didn't know who sexually assaulted her but two men that were at the hostel the night before had left. They must hadve drugged her glass of wine when she turned to speak to another backpacker at the table. Rikki decided to end her trip and come home.
Because of donors like you, we were able to help Rikki get into a hotel for a couple of nights, change her ticket, and get connected to a rape crisis center in her town.
Rikki is doing better. She is in counseling and plans to work for the summer until she starts her Junior year in the fall. She is very thankful for all the assistance we provided.
