When Jennifer called us this week our case manager Linda could barely understand her. Linda waited patiently, offering words of support and encouragement as Jennifer's sobbing slowly subsided.
Jennifer is in a study abroad program in France and had just been sexually assaulted by a study abroad student from another American University. They were friends and they had studied together in the past. He invited her to his host families home to study one night. When Jennifer got there he told her that the host family wasn't home so they could spend some time alone.
When Jennifer felt uncomfortable she made an excuse to leave. That is when he made advances at her. When she resisted, he sexually assaulted her.
Linda was able to help Jennifer get to the hospital where she received medical care and counseling. Linda is still working with Jennifer as she decides what she wants to do next. Here is a note from Jennifer:
"Linda helped me in the darkest hour of my life. I don't know what I would have done without her."
We want to thank you for helping us help American victims of sexual assault abroad! The AODVC Team
