Your Zakat Can Put Food on a Family's Table

By Zahra Yasir | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

For many displaced Muslim families in northeast Nigeria, the question each morning is painfully simple: What will we eat today?

Years of conflict and repeated displacement have taken families away from their homes, farmland, livestock and sources of income. Parents who once grew their own food or earned enough to provide for their children can suddenly find themselves living in displacement camps or struggling within host communities, dependent on humanitarian assistance for their next meal.

The hunger crisis in northeast Nigeria remains severe. The World Food Programme reports that 2.3 million people are displaced by violence and insecurity across the region, while nearly 5.8 million people in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are facing severe food insecurity in 2026. In Borno alone, more than 3 million people are acutely food insecure.

Behind these numbers are families.

There is a mother trying to divide a small amount of food among several children. There is an older person who may have lost the strength and income to provide for themselves. There are children whose growing bodies need nutritious meals but whose families cannot afford enough food. There are also people living with illness who need medical attention but must choose between buying medicine and buying something to eat.

For children, prolonged hunger can become dangerous. UNICEF reports that around one million children across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are expected to suffer life-threatening severe acute malnutrition in 2026.

This is why Share Your Zakat to Feed Muslim Families in Crisis remains necessary.

Through this project, Zakat will help provide food parcels, nutritious meals, clean water, basic healthcare and other relief to Muslim families affected by conflict and displacement. Priority will be given to households facing the greatest hardship, including children, women, older people and people living with disabilities.

Zakat given to a family facing hunger can mean food in an empty home. It can mean a mother preparing a proper meal for her children. It can mean an older person eating that day. It can mean basic medical care for someone who has nowhere else to seek help.

For families who have lost almost everything, these acts of kindness matter.

To every donor who has shared their Zakat through this project, thank you. Your generosity reminds families living through displacement and hunger that they have not been forgotten.

The need across northeast Nigeria remains immense. Please continue to share this project with your family, friends and Muslim communities. Someone looking for a place to give their Zakat may simply need to hear about a family waiting for help.

May every gift bring food to a hungry family, comfort to someone living through hardship, and relief to those who need it most.

Thank you for remembering them.
