Update Report - Sharing Happiness by Qurbani

By Maksuda Akter Hridi | Exicutive, Partnership, OBHIZATRIK Foundation

Summary

Eid-ul-Azha is a sacred occasion that symbolizes sacrifice, compassion, and the joy of sharing. For many low-income families in Bangladesh, it is the only time of year they can access nutritious meals that include meat. The “Sharing Happiness by Qurbani” initiative by OBHIZATRIK Foundation aimed to bridge this gap by distributing freshly prepared meals to underprivileged individuals, ensuring they could celebrate Eid with dignity and joy. Over two days, the project served 570 individuals with cooked meals sponsored by generous Qurbani donors.

Challenges

  • Limited Access to Nutritious Food: Thousands of families living below the poverty line cannot afford meat throughout the year.
  • Social and Emotional Exclusion: Financial hardship prevents many from performing Qurbani or participating in Eid celebrations, especially affecting children.
  • Resource Constraints: Organizing large-scale meal distributions while maintaining hygiene and hospitality standards required significant logistical coordination.

Solution

To address these challenges, OBHIZATRIK Foundation implemented a two-day cooked meal distribution program:

  • Eid Day (7 June 2025): Served 350 individuals with Beef Rezala, Steamed White Rice, and Fresh Salad.
  • Second Day of Eid (8 June 2025): Served 220 individuals with the same nutritious menu.
  • Volunteer Engagement: A dedicated team of local volunteers ensured food safety, hygiene, and respectful service, embodying the spirit of unity and compassion.
  • Donor Participation: Individual Qurbani donors sponsored the meals, transforming personal religious obligations into collective impact.

Long-Term Impact

  • Nutritional Support: Provided quality protein to families who rarely access meat, contributing to better health outcomes.
  • Social Inclusion: Enabled marginalized individuals to participate in Eid celebrations, fostering a sense of belonging and dignity.
  • Community Engagement: Strengthened the culture of volunteerism and donor-driven impact, encouraging future participation in similar initiatives.
  • Model of Compassionate Giving: Demonstrated how personal milestones and religious duties can be transformed into meaningful social contributions.

 Appeal for Year-Round Support

While Eid-ul-Azha offers a moment of joy and nourishment, the need for nutritious meals among underprivileged communities persists throughout the year. With the support of GlobalGiving, OBHIZATRIK Foundation envisions expanding this initiative beyond seasonal boundaries—providing regular access to healthy meals that improve overall well-being, reduce malnutrition, and restore dignity to those most in need.

Your continued support through GlobalGiving makes this vision possible. By contributing to our year-round meal distribution efforts, you help ensure that vulnerable individuals—especially children and women—receive the nutrition they deserve, not just during festivals, but every day. Together, we can build a healthier, more equitable future for all.

Conclusion

The “Sharing Happiness by Qurbani” initiative was more than a food distribution program—it was a celebration of shared humanity. By connecting donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries in a spirit of service and solidarity, OBHIZATRIK Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to equity, dignity, and compassion. The success of this project highlights the power of collective generosity in creating lasting social impact, especially during spiritually significant moments. With GlobalGiving, this impact can continue throughout the year.
