Project Report | Feb 5, 2021
Shelter for Abused Girls, Sierra Leone

By Jennifer A Nardozzi | Board Member and USA Representative

February 2, 2021:

To our Donors, Colleagues, Families, Friends and Contributors:

First, we wish you all a very Healthy, Happy, Peaceful 2021.

As sadly as  the Ebola epidemic was, we learned a great deal from that experience and as a result, we have been able to ccpe with COVID 19 infestations well and safe in our area. We continue to follow the CDC and WHO recommendations of wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands frequently.

We are happy to report that under the pandemic circumstances, we were able to hold our Annual General Meeting on January 7-10, 2021, limiting it to just the National Staff, following the above procedures.

Commit+Act was founded in 2013 in Sierra Leone to bring psychosocial support to people in conflict areas. Since the establishment, it has implemened various projects and activities with partnership and support from Commit+Act Germany and Commit+Act USA.

Our organization staff, Board members and partners came together under limited attendance, observing the above procedures, so we could look into the activities for 2020, where we looked at the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to be able to plan for 2021.

1.  My Body My Right

a.  We advertised for recruitment of young women as well as gave orientation to our staff.

b.  The traditional launchng was difficult due to identifying those most affected by this project

c.  We made provision initially for 200 girls but we have a great number (over 2600) on the wait list.

d.  The challenge is limited funds.

2.  Shelter for Abused Girls

a.  Provided safe homes for girls

b.  Provided 3 meals a day for girls

c.  Provided dignity and sanitary kits for girls

d.  Provided medical support for clients

e.  Provided legal aid to clients

f.  Conduct family tracing, reunification and follow up on clients

g.  Social intraction with clients during their stay at the home

h.  Staff training in ACT and Prosocial.

So much has been accomplished but yet, there is so much more to do.  We need all the help we can get, and we are  truly grateful for the donations given to our cause.

In gratitude,

Jennifer Nardozzi, PsyD'

Board Member and USA Representative.
