Background: The Digital World and Our Children

In today’s world, children are spending more time online than ever before. The internet offers great opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection but it also exposes children to risks such as cyberbullying, harmful content, online grooming, and exploitation. In many Kenyan communities, parents and caregivers lack the skills, knowledge, and confidence to support their children’s online experiences. Without proper guidance, children are left vulnerable in the digital space. Childline Kenya has stepped in to bridge this gap, equipping parents and caregivers with the tools they need to keep children safe online while encouraging positive digital engagement.

Our Innovative Approach: Community Resource Persons & Discussion Cards

To make online safety education accessible, Childline Kenya has trained Community Resource Persons who take the message directly to families. Using interactive discussion cards, CRPs spark meaningful conversations with caregivers, simplifying complex digital safety concepts into practical, relatable guidance. These sessions empower parents to:

  1. Monitor children’s online activity positively.
  2. Build open communication and trust with their children.
  3. Identify signs of online risks and take protective action.
  4. Encourage safe and productive use of digital platforms.

Impact So Far

In just this quarter, Childline Kenya has reached over 2,100 caregivers with life-changing knowledge. Each caregiver represents a family where children are now safer, more supported, and better guided online. The ripple effect of this effort is profound every informed parent creates a safer environment not only for their child but also for peers, schools, and communities. Yet, the task ahead remains vast. Millions of children and caregivers across Kenya still lack this essential guidance.

The Challenge: Scaling for Greater Impact

While the progress is encouraging, we are only scratching the surface. The demand for online safety education continues to outpace our current capacity.

Key challenges include:

  1. Limited resources to reach caregivers in rural and underserved communities.
  2. A growing need to involve children directly in participatory online safety activities.
  3. Strengthening collaboration with schools, local leaders, and national stakeholders to sustain change.

To safeguard every child, we must expand rapidly and inclusively.

The Solution: Support from GlobalGiving

With the partnership and support of GlobalGiving, Childline Kenya can accelerate the progress already achieved and extend the reach of this vital work.

Your support will help us:

  1. Scale caregiver sessions – Training more Community Resource Persons and expanding outreach to thousands of additional caregivers.
  2. Engage children directly – Developing age-appropriate, interactive tools that empower children to practice online safety themselves.
  3. Strengthen stakeholder collaboration – Bringing schools, community leaders, and government actors into joint action for sustainable protection.
  4. Amplify awareness – Producing and distributing educational resources to reach even more households nationwide.

Why Your Support Matters

Every contribution to this initiative is more than a donation. It is an investment in a child’s safety, dignity, and future.

  1. $20 equips a CRP with discussion cards and materials to reach 20 families.
  2. $10 supports a caregiver training session that benefits an entire community.
  3. $50 helps create child-friendly learning materials for use in schools.
  4. $1,000+ expands the program into new counties, multiplying the impact across Kenya.

Together, We Can Build a Safer Digital Future

Childline Kenya’s objective is simple but urgent: no child should be left vulnerable online. With the right knowledge, parents and children can turn the internet into a place of opportunity, not danger. GlobalGiving’s support will transform today’s progress into tomorrow’s nationwide movement for child online safety. Together, we can ensure that every child in Kenya and beyond navigates the digital world with confidence, security, and hope.
