In 2023, our Community Outreach team has been hard at work, spreading awareness and teaching in the areas surrounding our Community Care Centers. There have been a total of 730 in attendance across the many training events that we hosted since January of this year and we are on track to have a total of over 900 trained advocates by the end of 2023.

Here is a testimonial from one of the recent graduates of our Disability Advocacy Training:

"My name is Julia and I reside here in Garden and am one of the Special Hope trained advocates. First of all I would like to thank Special Hope Network for the work which they are doing here in Garden community by training and sensitizing people. The short course training has impacted my life and the community and I now have knowledge about intellectual disabilities. Upon learning all these things we as Garden compound, would like to appreciate Special Hope Network because this knowledge is not only beneficial to us trainers but also the community and country at large, especially to those who have kids with an intellectual disability. With this knowledge People will not laugh or hide their kids in homes but bring them out and allow them to socialize with other kids. Of late, many people in the community were not aware of intellectual disabilities but due to trainings and sensitization, people have stopped laughing at these kids but consider them now as part of society."

This is just one of the countless stories of the awareness and acceptance that is coming through our Community Outreach program. Thank you for being a part of creating a world for children with intellectual disabilities and making these trainings posttible. Together, we are making an impact for families in Lusaka, Zambia.
