Hey there supporters!
HopeCore, in partnership with the Tharaka Nithi County government, screened 39,142 clients for hypertension in Tharaka Nithi County from January to March! By catching hypertension early, we're empowering these individuals to take control of their health before it's too late. This early detection allows them to work with healthcare professionals to manage their blood pressure through lifestyle changes or medication, reducing their risk of future complications. Knowing their high blood pressure status allows them to take proactive steps and avoid future health worries.
High blood pressure, also called hypertension is a silent threat. Most people with high blood pressure don't feel any symptoms. But over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can damage your arteries throughout your body, leading to serious health problems.
High pressure makes arteries more prone to blockage by fatty deposits. If a blockage cuts off blood flow to the heart, it can cause a heart attack. If it cuts off blood flow to the brain, it can cause a stroke. Both are life-threatening emergencies. The heart has to work extra hard to account for high pressure and may become weaker over time. This can eventually lead to heart failure, where your heart struggles to pump blood effectively. High blood pressure can damage the tiny blood vessels in your kidneys, leading to kidney failure, and can damage the blood vessels in your eyes, leading to vision problems or even blindness.
Out of those we screened, we identified 6,308 individuals with high blood pressure. This means we're catching hypertension early! Imagine this - all these people were walking around unaware of a hidden threat to their health. But thanks to our screening efforts, they now know and can take control of their situation. Early detection is crucial! By referring 3,561 of them to health facilities, these people have access to the resources and ongoing support they need to manage their blood pressure effectively. This could involve regular checkups, medication adjustments, and guidance on healthy lifestyle choices—all crucial for staying healthy in the long run.
In our fight against hypertension, HopeCore trained 258 Community Health Providers (CHPs) and gave refresher training to 768 CHPs. Equipping CHPs with the necessary expertise on hypertension is key as they serve as frontline healthcare providers in their communities, empowering them to effectively screen, educate, and support community members in managing their hypertension, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes.
Thanks to your generous support, we're helping people avoid devastating health complications. You're helping save lives! We're sincerely grateful for your continued belief in our mission.
But the fight's not over yet. By supporting our program, you're helping us reach even more individuals and educate them to live long and healthy lives.
With Sincere gratitude,
The Hypertension Program Team
