Hello Beautiful people
About our Campaign for the Fitness Marathon for Women, in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025 / Sister month, Yoga and Sport with Refugees organized a three-day Fitness Marathon, from March 6 to March 8, as part of a wider campaign aligned with the Women’s March movement. The initiative focused on women’s access to sport and aimed to raise funds for improving our facilities to create an even safer and more welcoming space for women in our community.
Our objectives were to raise funds to improve the accessibility and safety of our women’s training spaces,Promote women’s empowerment through sport,Mobilize coaches and allies from across locations and online to support the campaign and Strengthen visibility around inclusive and feminist approaches to sport during International Women’s Day.
Coaches from our community and external partners led Yoga, Pilates, and Fitness classes, either online or in-person, over the three days.Classes were open to the public with a suggested donation of €10 per session. The event was promoted across our social media platforms and networks to encourage widespread participation.
Following the event, we held a focus group discussion with women participants and coaches to reflect on the outcomes of the campaign and gather feedback on next steps. Key takeaways included:
We managed to raise €2,200. Our goal is to purchase pilates and yoga equipment (including bricks, elastic bands, rings, mats, and Pilates balls) and a room divider to increase privacy and create safer training environments for women. This new equipment will directly support the creation of more inclusive and accessible spaces for women at our gym, aligning with our mission to use sport as a tool for empowerment and integration.
Lastly but not least the Fitness Marathon was not only a successful fundraising event, but also a meaningful moment of solidarity and empowerment in celebration of International Women’s Day.
It demonstrated the strength of community-based organizing and the role of sports in advancing gender inclusion and equality.
We extend our gratitude to all coaches, participants, and supporters who made this campaign a success.
