Skills development to Refugees and IDPs in DRCongo

In the absence of a shelter, this shewing machine in providing an alternative solution where people can stay

Despite of the noise of relief aid agencies, despite the loud voices of the United States of America and the European Union about relief aid to DRC, millions of IDPs have never received any single relief for the one year or two years they have been in camps.

This woman uses that shewing machine which is the only one she has in order to put together small plastics and make a big one which are bought by IDPs in order to put in on their roof, to understand it better just look at this house of a family of IDP in Bulengo around Goma. He went and bought these plastics from that woman and now he managed to make this shelter, once you visit IDP camps you will realize that there are so many shelters made in this way because the owners did not receive aid in order to build a shelter.

Just imagine if this woman did not know how to do this and if she did not have this shewing machine? What could have been the situation? Obviously it could have been different, as these IDP wait for relief aid to come in case it will come, please help to promote and improve these local solutions which are helping to adapt to the situation.

That is why we came up with this project which also focuses on refugees women in order to develop their skills. While it solves a community problem in IDP Camps it is also an income generating to many people. We have those who move around every day collecting these plastic bags in many places, then those in transport up to the camps, where they are sold by those with stores and then they also bought by this woman and then lastly to IDP who are building, this woman wants to have how own store for these plastics where people can come and buy them.
