Empowering refugees to develop through their skills and capacity building
We are shifting from the relief aid to economic development activities which promote more the dignity of the persons and makes refugees more independent from the relief aid. Refugees come with skills, knowledge, talents and ability to learn new things which can help them and increase their protection space.
Through the financial grant from Children’s Rights Innovation Fund, we have trained 20 refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in Kalemie on how to get involved in loans and credit through their association. At the same time, now with funding from COHERE we have started a pilot project focusing on Agriculture among refugees and IDPs in Kalemie City, Tanganyika Province.
While in Kinshasa efforts are being put in place to bring facilitate the organization of refugees, we are both involved in meetings and trainings which will help refugees to develop and start earning money through their own efforts.
However we are confronted to the lack of funding, most of our projects in GlobalGiving are facing a challenge to raise the necessary funds and this has negatively affected our activities.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
