Skills development to Refugees and IDPs in DRCongo

Refugees and IDPs dignity also depends on their own abilities to earn their survival means

We remain focused on long-term approach which seeks to transition from relief aid to skills development in order to achieve community integration and fight against poverty and vulnerability.

As members of the communities, refugees are equally gifted by various talents, some have already started using what they have others have not yet due to various reasons, but still those who started have been affected with many challenges.

For the last three months we have been able to engage some refugees in agriculture. In total 40 women and young girls are being trained in Climate Resilience Agriculture which will help them acquire skills and knowledge in order to venture in agriculture in Kalemie. Producing their own food makes them more independent from relief aid and solves so many problems at ago. Also they can produce for commercial activities and earn money from local Markets.

The second approach in Business skills to most affected communities, as we are now reporting, we have two groups of young people in Kalemie composed of refugees from Burundi and Rwanda who created their own Village Loan and Saving Associations, after a training which we provided them in April.

We still have more to do but as per now we are limited with funding, we are confronted to many urgent needs of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons and money we are using is from our own local contribution generally.
