1155 Fast-Tracking Education for Afghan Women and Girls

As the year draws to a close we reflect on what we have done and how this has changed lives for the better. AIL’s Learning Centers (LCs) give women the opportunity to learn, to network with other women and to gain both knowledge and capacity.  In 2017, 2,291  students have attended 6 month courses in sewing at  LCs ( rural) in Herat and Kabul locations.

Stories are the best way for us to show how you help poor Afghans improve their lives and communities. Here is one of our favorites from the year; this student learned about leadership and how to build her capacity to become a business owner.

“I learned to sew clothes but did not have much time to work in the market. However, I wanted to have a tailoring shop one day.  I met two women who knew tailoring but they did not have the money to open a shop. I told them that I would provide the machinery and pay the rent for the shop if they would work in the market.

In the beginning they were unsure about being the first women to work in the market. But after some discussion they accepted me and my idea and we together we started our business. It was a good beginning for us and for other women in the market place in Naili. Now many women are working in the Naili market and the three of us are proud to be have been the ones to begin this change.”

Thank you for your continued interest.  Please read the 2017 Newsletter from CHI featuring AIL.
