Good Cause Foundation is proud to share progress from our project focused on training school children in liquid soap production using affordable and locally available materials. This initiative was designed to empower students with practical entrepreneurial skills while also improving hygiene and supporting vulnerable learners in schools.
The project is currently creating meaningful impact in both Mukono and Tororo, where students, teachers, and communities are benefiting from improved hygiene awareness, income-generating opportunities, and educational support.
Project Activities
During the implementation period, students participated in hands-on training sessions where they learned:
The soap produced by students is being used for handwashing within schools to improve hygiene and reduce the spread of illness. Excess soap is sold to nearby communities, creating small but meaningful income streams to support vulnerable children with school supplies and educational needs.
Impact and Achievements
The project is creating strong empowerment opportunities for children and communities in Mukono and Tororo districts. Students are gaining practical life skills, confidence, teamwork experience, and entrepreneurial knowledge at an early age.
Schools involved in the project have reported:
The initiative is also strengthening community involvement, as parents and local residents are supporting and purchasing soap produced by the students.
Sustainability of the Project
One of the strongest aspects of this initiative is its sustainability. By teaching children practical production and business skills, the project creates a student-led support system that can continue generating impact beyond the training period.
Income generated from soap sales is helping schools support vulnerable learners with scholastic materials, school requirements, and educational assistance. This model encourages self-reliance while promoting dignity, responsibility, and long-term community development.
