Dear SOAR volunteers,

Thank you all for visiting us last year! You are like my family, thus please allow me to call you grandma, grandpa, aunties and uncles. I sincerely appreciate for all your help and the SOAR scholarship!

Thanks to the SOAR scholarship, I became a high school student last year! As excited as I was, I felt the pressure at the same time with more subjects and homework. I ranked No. 10th in our class (about 60 students) and No. 32nd in entire 10th grade students (more than 600 students) during the first semester final exams. I promise, I will move up to at least No.20th next semester.

Last December, I won the silver medal for the National Science Competition for High School Students (Guizhou Province). While I was immersed in the joy of achievement, my mother got injured in the construction field. Her bones were fractured and had to stay in hospital for three months. It was during the final exam period and both my young brother and I had fever. Thanks to the SOAR scholarship, I didn’t ask any money from my father since then.

I also plan to save some scholarship for college. I did a simple math that if I only spend 200 dollars per semester, I will have some left for college. Although I’m not sure whether you still remember me, I remember you all and want to say: Thank you! Our teacher told us that lots of you got sick after the intense SOAR students visit trip. In the mountains of Guizhou province, there’s no road. Volunteers had to hike miles to reach one school and then immediately head to another one and anther one. They barely had time to eat and sleep. I am deeply touched by your warm greetings and care. I wish you all good health just like I wish for my grandma and parents.

I know that I am not smart as a whip, but I work very hard. I will study harder and harder, and will make progress. Thank you again for the scholarship and life got better and better because of SOAR!

Wish you all the Best!
