Diversity & Inclusion: LIVES Art Project

In our ongoing efforts to raise awareness for people with disabilities, we are actively searching for venues to showcase Outsider Art. While we have conducted online Awareness Art Talks during the exhibition period, we are considering a shift to include conducting live Awareness Talks at the display venue. This change aims to create an engaging experience for visitors, providing them with the opportunity to interact with artists, gain inspiration, and foster a deeper understanding of the artistic process. 

Live Talks and Artistic Expression: 

Conducting Awareness Talks on a live platform at the display venue presents an exciting prospect. This approach allows attendees to engage directly with the artists, fostering a more profound understanding of their work. Live interactions enable attendees to pose questions, receive immediate responses, and witness live painting sessions—an opportunity not frequently available to these artists. 

Past Initiatives and Evolving Strategies: 

Our past initiatives included Art Talks where curators explained the concept of Outsider Art and its historical context. Curators acted as intermediaries, introducing each art piece on behalf of the artists. However, recognizing the significance of the artists' direct voices, we aim to shift towards having the artists present during the talks, believing that their physical presence will greatly impact the audience. 

Challenges and Solutions: 

Many of these artists reside in facilities located outside of Tokyo, facing challenges in independent travel due to disabilities and associated transportation costs. In response, we are actively working to create opportunities that allow artists with disabilities to step outside the confines of their usual environments. By addressing these challenges, we hope to better understand their unique needs and characteristics, fostering a more inclusive and diverse society.  

Our commitment to creating a platform for artists with disabilities to share their voices directly aligns with our broader goal of promoting inclusivity. We firmly believe that these initiatives will not only raise awareness but also contribute to the development of a more diverse and inclusive society in the future.
