Pakistan is facing an escalating humanitarian and environmental crisis, driven largely by the worsening effects of climate change. The country, though contributing little to global emissions, is highly vulnerable to climate-induced disasters such as floods, droughts, and heat waves. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and frequent natural calamities have severely impacted on agriculture, water availability, and public health. Over 85% of the population lacks access to safe drinking water, relying on contaminated sources that spread waterborne diseases like diarrhea, typhoid, and cholera—especially affecting children and women.
Climate pressures have also intensified poverty, as inflation, job loss, and environmental degradation push families below the poverty line. Floods in 2010 and 2022 displaced millions, destroying infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods, while earthquakes continue to threaten mountainous regions. With recurring disasters, thousands are forced into displacement, living in camps with poor facilities and facing long-term insecurity.
