The village of Kya Kyat Chaung is located about 120km to south-east from Hpa An, the state capital of Kayin(Karen). Kya Kyat Chaung High School has nearly 100 students and many of them are the sons & daughters of returnees (Internally Displaced People and Refugees lived in the camps in Thailand). For many of the students their houses are located far from the school and they stay overnights at temples near by the school.
Many of the high school students are studying until late at night to prepare for the exams for higher education, however, before the solar powered electricity comes, they had to study mostly under candle light.
Against such plight Kya Kyat Chaung High School is known as one of the best schools in the Kayin state.
The rainy season is soon to end, BHN plans to start another construction work of solar powered systems into the hospital located in the sub-township of Shan Ywar Thit , although the recent conflicts in the Kayin state may deter our activities.
