I am thrilled to be able to report that we fully funded our fifth health care facility water system, which is being constructed in the village of Karami Tsofoua.

The goal of the project is to contribute toward improved quality of healthcare through access to water on-site at the Karambi Tsofoua Health Care Facility (HCF). The main objective is to provide safe and accessible water at points of care for better sanitation and hygiene practices at the HCF and in the community. Access to water and other WASH services can help increase the visits to the HCF children younger than 5 years old. Access to drinking water also will reduce the amount of household tasks for women and girls who can use their free time for other endeavors such as income-generating activities.

To achieve the goals of this project, key activities include:

  • Conduct a technical feasibility study
  • Drill a borehole on-site at the HCF
  • Test the water yield and quality (must meet World Health Organization standards)
  • Install pumping equipment, including a Grundfos submersible pump and accessories
  • Install and connect the solar-powered system made of solar panels with wiring
  • Install a stainless-steel overhead water tank (15-cubic-meter capacity)
  • Construct a distribution tap in the courtyard for use by all visitors
  • Construct a pipeline network to connect all distribution points outside and inside the facility, including taps in care and delivery rooms
  • Construct distribution taps in the community for household use

While there have been some delays due to the political instability in Niger, we are hopeful that project will be completed by January of 2024.

Thank you, as always, for your support as we work to bring safe water to more villages and health care facilities in Niger.

Warmly,

Kate
