Project Report | Feb 12, 2024
A Volunteer's POV

By Danielle Webster/Charisma Naik | SOSA Board Member/SOSA Volunteer

A group of SOSA's Volunteers
A group of SOSA's Volunteers

SOSA has been operating on a 'somewhat unusual' business model - we are an all volunteer-run organization! In short, we've only been able to accomplish what we have through a robust pool of volunteers! In serving SOSA, they not only enrich the lives of those they provide service to, but also their own ;).

We've asked one of our volunteers to share their experience with working with SOSA. Here's what they had to say:

“I had the pleasure of working with SOSA to increase STEM engagement in Jamaican schools. I was thoroughly impressed with how intelligent the students were. Their accelerated thinking was not unnoticed because they theorized creative and feasible ideas right after our presentation; this meant that they synthesized the topics we presented quickly and went the extra step to think of solutions through their critical thinking skills…The biggest takeaway from my experience was that the students in Jamaica have brilliant minds and limitless potential. It is important to promote STEM engagement and professional development in these students so we can ensure they get equal opportunities to make ripple effects out in the real world.”

Thank you for your continued support, which enables us to expand/enrich programming for our students!
