More Help for Iasi, Romania

By Lelia Creanga | Project Coordinator, Iasi, Romania

Hello,

I am Lelia Creanga from Iasi, Romania. I contacted Romania Animal Rescue in the Spring of 2013 asking for their help with spay/neuter for cats, as I know they already have spayed and neutered thousands of cats in our country with their program.

Iasi (pronounced Yash), Romania's second largest city, has a serious situation concerning stray cat population. There are numerous reasons that led to this unfortunate problem that causes so much suffering for the poor animals, but the main issue remains, as always, the financial constraints: people are poor, they try to do the best they can...and sometimes they don't know any better. They feed the cats around their houses or their blocks, but without spaying and neutering, more and more cats are being born, and many of these are abandoned in forests and other locations without resources. The stray cats population has rapidly increased. Due to the city location and geography, the most serious problem is the feral cats population around Copou Park, nearby Ciric forest and the International Airport and on Bucium plateau forests on the far outskirts of Iasi.

With the immense help of Romania Animal Rescue amazing donors we were able to spay / neuter now over 100 cats in Iasi alone - some stray cats but also some of the "protected" cats around the blocks, who are the producers of the often abandoned kitties. We need to stop the increasing of the kittens, we are determined to stop their suffering, we musn't allow any more unwanted litters to be born on the streets, in the forests or around busy streets of our city: their lives are miserable and short, suffering agonizing deaths.

We are grateful to have this project and we want to thank all of you who have donated to Romania Animal Rescue so we can continue our work. Now, people are constantly calling me to help them. They have heard that Romania Animal Rescue's great donors are helping the cats of our city! Many of them understood by now the benefits of having their cats spayed / neutered, they are considering now also the health advantages of the procedures, so they are more and more demanding our help! And this is also a victory! My deepest consideration to all RAR donors, lots of love to you all!

Sincerely,

Lelia Creanga
