Neuter and Spay, No More Strays

By Mandy Joy Easter | Project Leader

Animal Spay and Neuter International does not exist on its own and collaborations with other organisations is paramount. Such collaborations occurred last October where members of ASNI, Romania Animal Rescue (our sister charity) and Stichting Le Woef (our Dutch adoption partners) all met at the Center of Hope Hospital in Piteasca Romania. Gathering together to attend a two-day campaign in Dumitresti a village in the mountains 3 hours away.

During Spayathons (mass spay campaigns) stray animals are gathered by local rescuers from the surrounding area. After spaying/neutering they are not put back on the streets but taken by the Rescuers back to their rescues for adoption. Or our Dutch partners Stichting Le Woef will transport them to a shelter near Bucharest until they can be adopted in Holland.

135 animals were sterilized over the two days with seven stray dogs/puppies and one kitten also. Part of the volunteer’s work includes baby-sitting puppies and kittens during campaigns. Each was spayed or neutered (where old enough) and all were either adopted in the next few months or are awaiting adoption at this time.

Working together is essential for these animals and strengthens the outcome of every sterilization in the operating room.
