Update About Our Work

By Nancy Janes | President, Founder and CEO

Greetings Friends!

In this report I would like to share the latest information with you. We are extremely busy spaying and neutering at Center of Hope, using the air conditioned Spay Shuttle to pick up dogs from rural locations to help. The Red Van is continuing our remote spay and neuter campaigns, whereby the mobile team stays for days at a location to provide spays and neuters and veterinary care in villages.

In total Romania Animal Rescue has spayed and neutered 130,140 dogs and cats.

In July we were joined by a vet team from the USA who stayed at Center of Hope providing their skilled spay and neuter surgeries. 197 animals were spayed and neutered during the week of their stay. Our Romanian team now has new international colleagues.

With the collaboration we have with the County of Ilfov to provide spays and neuters to stop the abandonment of dogs, we are working harder than ever. This first of its kind initiative began in September 2022.

Small dogs have a tendency to lose body heat quickly. Therefore it is essential after surgery to monitor all dogs temperatures. We now have a new Mistral Air Plus 11 Air Warming System. This provides blankets that have hot air blown into them to keep small dogs warm.  All dogs are intubated to keep their airways clear.  Veterinary surgeons use the hook spay method to provide minimally invasive surgery. Anesthesia, long term pain medication, antibiotics (as needed) are all standard protocol.  We also deparasite the dogs who have fleas/ticks. All these actions help maintain homeostatis in a dog throughout the surgical procedure.  Once they are awake, aware and have been checked by a tech or vet we can return them to their rescuer or guardian.

For this high standard of surgerical procedure and care we are charged $25 per spay or neuter.  With your help we can do even more!

We are pleased to announce that we have received 3 new awards by GlobalGiving for the year 2024:

2024 Vetted Charity

2024 Charity of the Month

2024 Site Visit Verified

I wish you all the best and thank you for helping us to help the most needy animals and save thousands from ever being born to suffer in a place that cannot or will not provide for them.
