Romania Animal Rescue works constantly in Romania to provide spay/neuter for the animals as much as our funding allows.   The month of October we held our massive 1000 spay/neuter campaign in Craiova, Romania, with a total for the month of over 1500 animals spayed and neutered.

We had volunteers from Romania, the USA, Germany, Norway and Denmark attend and help.  Miriam from Germany sent us a report  about her experience at our Spayathon, and here is an excerpt:

"Once again the (Romania Animal Rescue (RAR))  Team got prepared for the a new "spay and neuter mission"...the biggest Spayathon in October.
This mission was based at the" Clinica Veterinara Familyvet"
of Dr. Aurelian Stefan and Dr. Stefan Petrisor in Craiova ... also known as the "Homeless Animal Hospital".
The cats(200) were neutered in the Clinic and the dogs (800) on the adjoining property, because the spatial separation caused a quieter operation.
The aim of this event was to s/n 800 animals in cooperation with volunteers/organisations from the USA, Norway, Denmark and Germany.
Miss Supranational Romania, Elena Zama was also present ... without any fear of contact, she got equal friendships with the "animal patients".
The event was advertised in the local media and newspaper from 5 counties.....

For this reason, the crowd was at least as great as the joy of the people who could benefit from the free spaying and neutering for their beloved pets. Many people in Romania can (justified by their minimal income), not afford castrations and veterinary treatments ... because of the upcoming new law at the end of this year, which demand castrations among others, these projects aren't only an active way to reduce the overpopulation of strays (with all its possible consequences), but also preventive measures against impending mass abandonment of pets and the ensuing sufferings of animals and humans.

To cut a long story short ...
At the end 1,000 castrations were performed due to public demand.
It was quite wonderful to see how many Romanians treat their pets responsibly. Upon my return (to Germany) I was asked if I had seen a change in Romania ... the answer is simple... yes... everyone who... in whatever manner... contributes these projects to take place, is a part this change.
No one was dismissed and each animal was examined and medically supplied.
A true masterpiece that could only be realized if people work hand in hand.

By the way, while I was writing this report, the Dream Team (Romania Animal Rescue) diligently s/n in: Focsani, Moreni, Mangalia, Tecuci, Glina and Bistrita.
A total of 1536 animals were castrated in the month of October ... but thousands of animals be spared of suffering, abandoning and/or being killed.
Recently the milestone of 30,000 successfully performed castrations was exceeded, while in addition the education and training projects of RAR / ASNI (our sister charity Animal Spay Neuter International)  for young vets and school kids were pursued.
The latest idea is already in the starting blocks ... a "No Puppy Project" will be established in Craiova soon.
For me it is quite clear, these people are pioneers for animals...visionaries on a rescue mission ... all around the world. You have my deepest respect..till the end of time!

In conclusion I would love to share the words of Dr. Aurelian Stefan one of the founder and spokesman for the german company Wolfsfreund with you... because even me couldn't say it better:
"There are many words that can describe the Spayathon: Determination, hard work, discipline are among them, yet one phrase is definitely explaining better why we do what we do--RESPECT FOR LIFE. Spay and neuter is the humane way to fight the misery, the pain, the disease and the hopelessness that is seen every day in Romania."

Tremendous thanks to the whole Dream Team, all Nurses, Volunteers, Organisations, Companies and Donors which are part of this wonderful "spay and neuter family". We all have the common dream to see no more suffering strays on the streets... all over the world. No more abandoned, neglected, unwanted and humiliated animals.. for this we vouch together!!

Thx for your attention!
BE the Change you want to see in the World.
sincerely yours,
Miriam"

We would like to thank Miriam for her words and sharing of her experience.   I hope you, our donors through Global Giving, will continue to support our wonderful spay/neuter programs in Romania.   Thanks to you, its working!
